Programme Summary / Issues under Discussion: The Eastern Cape has long been regarded as one of the worst performing provinces in terms of education, which has partly been blamed on poor infrastructure and a lack of qualified teachers. It’s said to be the worst affected province in terms of the number of schools built using inappropriate material. An estimated 11-point-three billion Rand is required to eradicate the backlog throughout South Africa. It also has the most schools without proper sanitation. Substandard infrastructure and a lack of basic services are regarded as barriers to quality education. This debate will also touch on gangs, crime, drugs, the Makhanda water crisis and the Xolobeni mining standoff.
Format: Pre-election outside broadcast debate
