Decreased state funding and two late payments from the state of Illinois has led Indian Prairie School District 204 to approve a 4% tax increase in their annual tax levy.
“We will not receive that full 4%, not even close to that 4%, that’s just our request,” said Jay Strang, Chief School Business of Official of District 204. “In reality, we'll only see about a 1.94% increase, most of which is coming from new property.”
That, combined with the rising values of homes in the district means that effective tax rate is decreasing, despite the increase in the levy.
If passed, the average tax increase on a $300,000 home would be about $45.
The total requested levy this year is just under $288 million dollars.
In accordance with the truth in taxation law, there will be a public levy hearing on December 12th.
