Araksia Varderessian dedicated this song to Remembrance of the Armenian Earthquake of 1988. She was the witness of horrifying and terrible scenes left after earthquake that took place on December 7, 1988. Same year, she started her humanitarian concert tours and helped thousands of orphans by donating all the profit of the concerts to children and people in need.
The Gyumri Earthquake was a tremor with a magnitude of 7.1 that took place on December 7, 1988 at 11:41 am local time in the Gyumri (Leninakan) and Spitak regions of Armenia.
This earthquake devastated the cities of Spitak and Gyumri (Leninakan), where 25,000 deaths occurred. The earthquake left many without homes, left thousands of children without parents, and many millions with broken hearts. It was a huge disaster for Armenians.
The traces of the cataclysm are still evident in Gyumri (Leninakan), Spitak, and the surrounding villages. Many still don't have houses, and are living in small wagons. Around 20 years passed already from that horrifying day, but we have not yet recovered from its devastating effects just as we have not recovered from and still carry in our hearts and soul the effects of the Genocide.
