A Hong Kong environmental official visited a beach on Lamma Island on Tuesday (August 8) to inspect the cleanup progress of a 1,000-ton palm oil spill that occurred following a ship collision.
Tse Chin-wan, Undersecretary for the Environment, said the hardened palm oil had accumulated, blanketing the Hong Kong sea and beaches and polluting the environment.
More than a dozen public beaches have been closed since last Sunday as white blobs of congealed palm oil washed up on the city's shores.
