There are three steps for setting up a foreign investment company in China and one hidden requirement. The first step is to prepare all the required information and documents, like company name, address, legal representative, business scope, registered capital, and legalize/notarize passports if shareholders are individuals. The second step is to deal with the government to get the license. The third step is to talk to the bank for a visit and create an account. The hidden part is that in different cities or districts, the market supervision authority might ask for a company contact and a financial contact when registering. Sometimes they may require two separate contacts, and in some cases, it could be one person. In some areas, the contact needs to be Chinese with a verified Chinese phone number by presenting a passport or ID for verification to the MSA.
