Chittagong Elevated Expressway New Update
Project: Chittagong 16.5 km Elevated Expressway
Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) got approval for constructing a 16.5-kilometre elevated expressway from Lalkhan Bazar intersection to airport to facilitate traffic movement in the port city.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the mega project.
The project involving Tk 3,250.84 crore will be implemented with the government fund.
CDA will construct the expressway by 2020 aiming at developing smooth communication between the Chittagong city and south Chittagong districts and upazilas, reducing distance and expense for commuters in the city and easing movement to and from Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport.
There are two flyovers connecting the Bohoddarhat to Lalkhan Bazar in the city. After the implementation of the expressway, the two ends of the city will be connected through flyover and elevated expressway.
The 16.5-km elevated expressway will be a four-lane one with total width of 16.5 metres. The expressway will have 24 ramps in nine points from the Lalkhan Bazar to Airport. With the ramps, the total length of the expressway will be 28.5-km.
The ramps will facilitate entry and exit at Tigerpass, Agrabad, Barik Building intersection, Nimtala Biswa Road, Customs intersection, CEPZ intersection, Karnaphuli EPZ intersection, Kathgarr intersection, Sea-beach intersection and Airport intersection.
