Press Release for meeting of the Prime Minister of Pakistan with the President of Afghanistan
Prime Minister Imran Khan had a bilateral meeting with the President of Afghanistan, Dr. Ashraf Ghani, on the sidelines of the 14th Islamic Summit in Makkah-al-Mukarramah today.
During the meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on bilateral issues and the Afghan peace and reconciliation process. Prime Minister Imran Khan reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. He reiterated the belief that an Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace process was indispensible for a political solution.
On bilateral issues, both leaders agreed on the need to work closely for intensifying cooperation in different fields including energy, security, trade, and cultural collaboration.
In the regional context, the Prime Minister outlined his vision for peace, progress and prosperity in South Asia and highlighted his initiatives in this regard.
The two sides agreed that the visit of President Ashraf Ghani to Pakistan would provide the opportunity to carry forward the dialogue on bilateral and regional issues.
