Over the easter long weekend we drove 5.5 hours from Adelaide for a quick camping trip to Flinders Ranges, South Australia.
We bought along our two dogs but be aware there are poison bait in Wilpena Pound & Flinders Ranges so you should check which camp sites are dog friendly. We had our dogs in the car the whole trip.
The Skytrek 4WD track was a scenic 80km course that offers 50 scenic sites to mark as points of interest and goes for approximately 6 hours. The last 20km is for the more advance 4WDrivers but there is an option to miss that option.
We also stop by to visit Sacred Canyon to study a ancient Aboriginal rock carving and hiked 6km to Akaroo Rock which had an impressive site for Aboriginal Painting - all a must see stopover! Still so much to see but there is always next time to visit.
We pitched a tent at a unpowered site at Rawnsley Caravan Park which was dog-friendly but it was not the best option for our dogs as they were covered in burs. Couldn't get much assistance with recommendations to local sites to visit, the ladies at the servo at Hawkers were more helpful!
Next time, will try Willow Spring Station or Hawker Caravan Park that is also pet friendly.
