Today we're doing a First-Take IMPROVISED solo over a backing track without listening to it beforehand!
This is one of my favourite things to do in my own practice time. It forces you to LISTEN to the track that you're playing over and react to what you're hearing! Paying attention to the dynamics, tempo, chords, style, and more to influence what you choose to play.
A lot of players make the mistake of deciding what they want to throw into a solo (shred lines, sweep picking, etc.) instead of playing what suits the music best. As I said in a previous video, it's like the difference between preparing a monologue vs having a conversation.
Let me know what you think of the solo and if you'd like any follow-up videos on my thought process when trying this!
