Today's word of the day is 'idiosyncratic'. Idiosyncratic is an adjective and means a quality or way of behaving that is typical of only one person or thing and is often strange or unusual.
Idiosyncratic comes from ‘idiosyncrasy’, which came from Greek, Latin and French. It first appeared in English in 1756.
Some example sentences are:
‘The history teacher’s teaching methods are idiosyncratic but successful.’
‘Despite his erratic typing and idiosyncratic spelling, he went on to become a highly successful author.’
‘The musician’s idiosyncratic interpretations of classical pieces were both refreshing and controversial.’
