This video shows the top 10 countries by oldest median age over the past 70 years. It combines a bar chart race I made using Flourish (a website) and maps made with QGIS, showing where each country is. You can see just the bar chart and flip it to the youngest median age here: [ Ссылка ], though you will be able to see a mapped version of that next week.
For this video, I excluded certain statistics for smaller, dependent territories whose overall political organization, could not be considered to be autonomous countries. So, for this list the territories from the UN data that might have otherwise ended up on here are places like Martinique (and overseas region of France), The Channel Islands (British Dependencies) and perhaps most controversially, Hong Kong (which is a special administrative region of the People’s Republic of China) and while it is perhaps more independent in many ways than the other two, it is still not (and never has been) an autonomous country (went back and forth on this one a lot before deciding against using the data).
Liechtenstein and Monaco would both have been on here in the end as well, but for some reason the UN did not have their historic data. This may have been because while they are technically considered to be countries, but they are so small and have so many foreign-born workers and in them that this data is not collated in the same way. Also, all of the territories mentioned above, have higher populations than them (by at least 100,000). Monaco would have been top on this list by 2020 (and probably before), well above Japan with a median age of 55. Hopefully this is a reasonable way to do this.
