Rebel Serbs removed artillery from positions around Sarajevo on
Saturday (16/9), but the United Nations warned that NATO
airstrikes would be resumed if more weapons not pulled back from
the area. Bosnian Serb forces were seen withdrawing heavy weapons
from Lukavica barracks outside the Bosnian capital on Saturday and
moving them outside the 20km exlusion zone around the city. Meanwhile in New York on Saturday, UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali met his top advisers on Bosnia to review developments in the Balkans. Participating in the talks were UN mediator Thorvald Stoltenberg, special envoy Yasusi Akashi, peacekeeping forces deputy commander Major General Barry Ashton, UN political affairs chief Marrack Goulding and UN peacekeeping chief Kofi Annan.
