If the chord has a major third, your scale should also have a major third. The more notes you have an a chord – the less options you have as far as selecting a scale or a mode.
Of course rules can be broken, however using this approach will ensure that most listeners will relate to what you are playing. Make sure you have your guitar in your hand as you go through this lesson and take notes as you go.
