In Dragon Warrior IV for the NES (aka Dragon Quest IV) there's a way to bypass the ending events after defeating Necrosaro but before initiating the final scenes.
Normally after defeating the final boss, there is only one accessible exit from Zenithia, and leaving through this exit will begin the game's ending sequence with all the credits and scenes. However, using the Treasure Map has a strange side effect of closing those large double doors when they have been opened, and depending on where you stand and which way you face when you open double doors, the game will create an extra set of double doors, and this can be repeated many times.
For example if you stand in the lower left corner of the double doors that are north of those two NPCs blocking the stairs, you can use the Treasure Map to close the doors on top of your party. Then you can face to the right and use the Door command to not only open the double doors back up, but a new set of double doors will appear to your character's right and down one square.
This is significant because the bottom two panels of the double doors you create can be walked on, and by creating enough double doors in the right places, you can eventually make a walkable path through the walls of the castle that leads you to the opening in the clouds, and you can drop down to the land to bypass the game's ending sequence.
From here, you cannot use the Return spell to travel, and there are no random encounters, and furthermore, damaging floor tiles are deactivated. However, if you backtrack enough, you can eventually reach Necrosaro's Castle, and if there are any of those moving Clay Doll enemies left, you can fight one.
The good thing about these Clay Dolls is that you cannot run from them, so if you keep trying to use the Run command, you will eventually get completely defeated by these Clay Dolls. You can even unequip your party to make this go faster.
Why do you want to die here? Because when you die, you will be teleported back to Gottside, and from that town, you can walk north then west-ish to find your Hot Air Balloon. Now, you can travel the world after having defeated Necrosaro, which is normally not possible.
If you fly to certain towns where ending scenes are supposed to take place, you will find that those events are still playing out. For example, if you fly to Santeem, you will see Cristo, Brey, and Alena walking toward the throne room along with your main hero, and when they reach the stairs, the sound effects kind of go nuts and the music eventually freezes.
If you travel back to the hero's hometown, you can see the final scene play out with two heroes just kinda chillin there until the game gets overloaded with sprites and starts to glitch out a whole bunch.
Note that this Treasure Map glitch can be performed on any set of double doors that has an opening animation (so that excludes double doors that disappear when you use the correct key).
