STORYLINE:
Tons of concrete collapsed from a ceiling over a waiting area in a passenger terminal at Paris' largest airport Sunday morning, killing at
least five people and injuring three, rescue officials said.
The accident occurred at Terminal 2E of Charles de Gaulle airport just north of the French capital.
The terminal was opened just 11 months ago, after at least two construction delays, and the cause of the accident was not immediately known.
At least five people were killed and three injured, Paris Fire Department Capt. Laurent Vibert told The Associated Press.
Police said others were still trapped under debris.
The accident occurred at about 7 a.m. (0500 GMT). It strewed concrete over an area about 50 meters (50 yards) by 30 meters (30 yards), officials said.
"There are several tons of concrete that collapsed in a structure in a waiting area that leads out to the airplanes," Vibert said.
Authorities immediately evacuated the terminal, and set into place a disaster response team.
