Counting for three municipal corporations in Delhi is going on and the BJP is towards big victory in the MCD North and MCD East and Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress in MCD are far behind. Exit polls after voting predicted that the BJP will retain the three municipalities, adding another crucial win to its list of victories in state and local elections across the country. For AAP, which swept assembly elections in Delhi two years ago, the civic elections are a fight to remain politically relevant after losing the Punjab and Goa elections last month. Polling for Delhi's north, south and east municipal corporations drew a voter turnout of 53.58 per cent, a smidgeon higher than the 2012 elections. The 2012 elections were the first after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi or MCD was split into three. The BJP sought to eliminate all chances of an anti-incumbency sentiment by fielding new faces in 267 wards of the total 272 wards. The party also expelled its Narela ward candidate for allegedly allowing sacked AAP minster Sandeep Kumar to campaign for her.
