The Mikoyan-Gurevich Mig-23MF fighter aircraft was designed as a successor of the Mig-21.
The system of varible geometry, which was then recognised as optimal, was used.
The prototype first flew in 1967. The first series production version Mig-23S did not
satisfy its users. In 1972 an improved version Mig-23M, with all faults of the Mig-23S
removed,made its first flight.
Two export versions were developed: Mig-23MF for Warsaw Pact countries and Mig-23MS
with reduced equipment for third world countries, The two-seat trainer version Mig-23UB type version was also built.
