Storefronts across America are finally starting to see a boost in sales, thanks in large part to the $1,400 stimulus checks sent out to eligible Americans in the American Rescue Plan.
Macy's CEO Jeff Gennette recently explained: "When we all look at what happened with the stimulus package, you know that's been an accelerant to our business. It's a big difference from where we were in the fourth quarter and in 2020."
Foot Locker Chairman and CEO Richard Johnson also stated: “It's the perfect time of year, we're getting into spring time, you know there's stimulus money and there's tax refund money [out there]. W]hen our customers got money in their pockets, they're out shopping whether it's digital clicks or it's in the malls where they're open.”
Johnson also said: "The one thing that I'm really confident of is that people aren't going to go back to wearing what we used to call dress shoes. Look to comfort both in apparel and footwear as being one of the key things that sticks with us after the pandemic."
It’s great to see Americans freely spending money once again, and I hope that by stimulating the market with our $1,400 stimulus checks, we can get our economy back to full strength soon.
Meanwhile, a leading White House official made it clear that he wants to work with the Republicans in Congress to draft and pass bipartisan legislation that both sides can agree on.
White House chief of staff Ron Klain explained earlier today: “We want to move forward if it’s at all possible on a bipartisan basis, and I think there’s some hope for that.”
He continued: “In the end, let me be clear, the president was elected to do a job, and part of that job is to get this country ready to win the future. That’s what he’s going to do. We know it has bipartisan support in the country. And so we’re going to do our best to try to get bipartisan support here in Washington.”
Hopefully the White House can unite the Dems and GOP to work together to craft stimulus bills that all parties can feel good about, as compromise is necessary for all sides to be happy.
Finally, talks are heating up regarding a fourth round of stimulus checks, and a new study shows just how vital these disaster relief benefits would be for millions of struggling Americans.
According to research from the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center: “A fourth stimulus check could lift over 7 million people out of poverty.”
They explained: “Another round of payments could lift an additional 6.6 to 7.3 million people out of poverty, depending on whether the payment was restricted to citizens or made available to everyone.”
The study also found: “the third stimulus check that was part of the American Rescue Plan will reduce the number of people in poverty by 11.4 million.”
With such a massive impact that a fourth stimulus check would have on the finances of millions of Americans across the country, I hope our politicians can finally hear our cries and deliver us the recurring stimulus checks that we still need so desperately.
