The Sipekne'katik First Nation is calling on the prime minister and RCMP to act after opposition to a self-regulated lobster fishery in Nova Scotia erupted in threats and violence earlier in the week.
Chief Michel Sack said during a press conference on Thursday that he had sent a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau asking him to provide more law enforcement to southwestern Nova Scotia.
His comments come two days after angry mobs damaged two facilities that handle lobster catches and a day after he himself was shoved at a standoff between Indigenous fishers and non-Indigenous commercial fishers.
Ross Lord reports on the tense situation in Nova Scotia, and how officials are responding.
