ANCIENT RUINS DESTROYED
ISIS have bombed up two ancient tombs they consider sacrilegious in Palmyra, a 2,000-year-old UNESCO World Heritage site in central Syria. Seized a month ago. ISIS posted pictures online displaying the destruction of the shrines that are situated 4 kilometres from Palmyra.ISIS has destroyed dozens of shrines in Iraq and Syria, many belonging to the Sufi sect, a mystical school that ISIS considers sacrilegious.
US “SPIED ON FRENCH PRESIDENTS”
According to Wikileaks documents, the US spied on three latest French presidents, Francois Hollande, Nicolas Sarkozy, and Jacques Chirac, among many other high-ranking French government officials. The whistleblower group has stated the documents are “a collection of top secret intelligence reports and technical documents from the NSA. Both France and the US are NATO members and the countries are close allies.
HEAT WAVE EMERGENCY
Pakistani official have declared a state of emergency after a heat wave has killed nearly 700 in Karachi. On June 20th, temperatures reached a 15-year record high of nearly 45 degrees Celsius. Pakistan's Meteorological Department said it expects the heatwave to subside in next few days. The high temperatures come at a time when Pakistan’s electricity companies have been using frequent and planned power outages to control increased electricity demands.
PROTESTS OVER POWER PRICE
In capital Yerevan, six thousand people have participated in a second round of protests against increased electricity costs. In a first round of protests, police dispersed demonstrators with water cannons and arrested about 200 people. In August, electricity prices are scheduled to rise by 17 to 22 percent, an increase Armenia’s Russia-owned electricity company has said is necessary due to dropping currency value.
