The Cornish Crabber is one of those boats that evokes the kind of nostalgia that Morris Minors and Minis inspire with motor enthusiasts. They are instantly recognisable on the water with their gaff rig, bowsprit and sturdy lines, its no wonder they have an ever growing following!
The Cornish Crabber 26 was designed by the late David Thomas (whose son Peter is now owner and MD of Cornish Crabbers) and built at their North Cornwall base. The factory and head office has been located in Rock, North Cornwall for over 40 years.
Every Cornish Crabber boat is built to order and all of the moulding is done on site enabling their highly experienced production team to control every aspect of the manufacturing process.
The Crabber 26 is usually powered by a 3 cylinder Yanmar 3YM20 (21HP@3600RPM) diesel engine with a 2.6:1 Gearbox Reduction Ratio, but can be offered with a secret weapon – a feathering 3-bladed Darglow FeatherStream propeller.
Peter Thomas fitted one of our feathering propellers to his original design and is very keen that it should be included in future owner’s specification! With efficient reverse performance and improved sailing it is a popular addition among owners, after all, Peter says, “why go to all this trouble to get everything right and then hang a bucket over the stern?”
