After not being able to calibrate guiding in PHD2, analysis of the debug logs was showing what looked like Retrograde motion when changing direction in the DEC axis. This was confirmed in the daylight, and Andrew Johansen engineered a solution, and also discovered the underlying reason for the problem - a missing bearing!
