Outfest Fusion: The LGBT People of Color Film Festival honored Patrik-Ian Polk. Oscar nominated director Lee Daniels presented the award.
"Being a black filmmaker is really hard work. And being a gay black filmmaker is close to impossible," said Lee Daniels. "And having the balls to tell gay stories in cinema the way Patrik Polk has done is inspiring to me because I don't have them yet. I'm growing 'em though."
Lee Daniels continues: "I was inspired by Punks. I have my 16-year old twins and I remember seeing it with my daughter. It's so wrong (laughs). And just really noticing the work jumping off the screen. It's honesty. His ability to tap into the truth with all of the characters and I even ended up hiring one of your actresses from Punks...
"So, anyway, I was blown away by Punks and just as I thinking "I wish I could come up with something like that, I wish I could come up with something like that," he then sucker punched me with the television series (crowd responds: Noah's Arc)."
