With 154 days until St. Patrick's Day 2023, we present the last of our "A Capella" Irish tunes from John's first ever professional gig in Toronto at the Old Sod Club in 1993. Enjoy!
From Wikipedia: "She Moved Through the Fair" (or "She Moves Through the Fair") is a traditional Irish folk song, which exists in a number of versions and has been recorded many times. The narrator sees his lover move away from him through the fair, after telling him that since her family will approve, "it will not be long, love, till our wedding day". She returns as a ghost at night, and repeats the words "it will not be long, love, till our wedding day", intimating her own tragic death and the couple's potential reunion in the afterlife.
LYRIC
My young love said to me, my mother won't mind
And my father won't slight you for your lack of kind
And she stepped away from me and this she did say:
"Oh, It will not be long now till our wedding day."
She stepped away from me and she moved through the fair
And so fondly I watched her move here and move there
And as she went homeward with one star awake
As the swan in the evening moves over the lake
Last night she came to me, oh she came softly in
And so softly she came that that her feet made no din
And she laid here hand on me and she did say:
"It will not be long Love 'til our wedding day"
"Oh, It will not be long Love 'til our wedding day"
