This adventure started as a camping trip in the Jacumba Wilderness Area where we always take the Jeep due to the occasionally harsh terrain. My friend would often claim that his RAV4 could make it, so he wanted to test it. His car did make it in and out, however, there were many scrapes and tire spins.
This video is post camping. Due to the RAV4's now-proven off road prowless, he suggests we take it to Valley of the Moon to further test its capability.
Upon "successfully" negotiating various obstacles, he continues to push forward until we drove into that bowl and couldn't get out. You can see where he throws his hands up in defeat a couple times because he'd literally attempted 15 times on both sides. This is after we had also gotten stuck for 40 minutes in soft sand in the same bowl.
The part where he's going up the hill at insane speed is desperation setting in because we're there alone and had seen no other vehicles all day. Moments later, the tire pops after another failed attempt to drive out.
So we're stuck and alone. We grabbed some water and hiked an hour to the entrance to wait another hour for his GF to come pick us up in her '04 Corolla.
She drove to my place and we returned three hours later in my Jeep to recover his car.
The funny part is as soon as I stopped recording, another part would fall off the car immediately after. Once he cleared those last rocks in the dark, both driver side inner fender liners slowly peeled off in an almost comical fashion.
