When speaking to some audiences, William Branham's stage persona aligned with the white supremacy views concerning the origin of people with dark skin, supported segregation, and strongly opposed the integration of black and white. Theologically, Branham's "Serpent's Seed" and "Hybreeding" doctrines were based upon the Christian Identity doctrines of Wesley A. Swift. According to Swift, the original sin in the garden of Eden was a sexual union between Eve and the Serpent. The result of this, according to Swift, was Cain.
The racist Christian identity doctrine was strongly opposed by ministers of the era. White supremacists claimed that the inferior race was the race of the Serpent’s bloodline. And that bloodline could be made impure; according to Swift and Branham, mixing races produced a "bastard child," resulting in a form of evil that required over ten generations to "breed out." Both referenced the Old Testament passages concerning the child born out of wedlock.
Though William Branham was careful not to fully describe this very racist origin story when speaking in public venues or on recording, Branham worked with others to train them and help spread racism off-recording. One of Branham’s closest associates, Raymond “Junior” Jackson, explained these details to his church members. This recording was also kept hidden from the public, but we now have access to a private recording of Jackson explaining Branham’s secret version of the “Serpent’s Seed” doctrine. According to Jackson, non-white races were trying to live beyond what their race was intended to be: laborers that are kept separate from white people.
