RULE BY LAW - JUSTICE ZIMBABWE STYLE by Violet Gonda
In Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa's Zanu PF party, has succeeded in manipulating the national justice system to punish political opponents. Members or supporters of the Citizens Coalition for Change such as Job Sikhala, Makomborero H, Joanna Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri have spent days languishing in custody or on continual remand. Independent activists such as novelist Tsitsi Dangarembga have also felt the weight of the skewed justice system. At the other end of the scale, ZANU PF party members and supporters have received slight taps on the wrist from magistrates aligned to the system, mostly for alleged crimes of fraud totalling many millions of dollars. This Spotlight production from Violet Gonda highlights just some victims and victors of the skewed justice system.
