Changes to the NSW planning system introduced in December 2022 have seen over 100 new farm stays open through Hipcamp. For farmers like Tom Harris from Sleepy Hollow Manor Estate, who dreams of passing the family farm down to his son, and knows there are good times and bad times when farming, is glad to have the extra income.
Hipcamp is creating new revenue for these working farms, revenue to reinvest in the land and help keep these working lands, working. Farm stays such as paddock camping, caravan and RV sites, and cabins with rustic charm now taking bookings.
Agritourism is in high demand as people seek to experience life on the land and rediscover where their food comes from. Waking up with friends and family on a working farm is a unique experience, filled with the sights, sounds and smells of farm animals.
It’s the stuff that memories are made of, and for those farmers now welcoming guests, it’s a revenue stream that helps to protect their way of life.
Over $100,000 has been earned by these 100 farm stays in the past 3 months. That’s new money to fix fences, and replant creeks and waterways and has flow-on benefits for regional communities.
Creating new places to stay outside, like farm stays, drives tourism dollars further into rural communities. As much as $400 per visit is spent by campers in the local community. Money that flows to rural businesses and supports jobs.
Landowners across Australia are partnering with Hipcamp to earn extra money by connecting their properties with people looking to go camping. Hipcamp offers landowners the tools they need to start a farm stay or camping business on their land.
