Cinnabon – the American chain has arrived in Sydney. While Cinnabon was founded in Seattle in 1985, and has thousands of locations in more than 50 countries, it wasn’t until 2019 that Australia got its first outlet, in Queensland. It’s since been followed by four more Queensland stores, and Cinnabon’s first Melbourne bakery opened last year. Now, Sydney will get its first Cinnabon in Darling Square. It was slated to open in late 2022, but due to delays its opening has been pushed to January 2023.
“It’s a pretty sick location,” Alby Lam, one of four directors of the master franchisee that holds the franchise for Cinnabon in NSW and ACT, tells Broadsheet. “We thought hard on where we’d have the first one – we didn’t want to be hidden in a shopping centre, we wanted to be on the street.”
Cinnabon’s first Sydney outlet will be a 40-square-metre space on the corner of Harbour Street near Market City, with outdoor seating for 15 to 20 people. Along with the brand’s staple super-sticky scrolls, there’ll be chocolate and caramel-pecan varieties, as well as monthly specials – the Sydney store’s bakers have the freedom to design their own, or to use the creations from any of the other outlets around the world. The bakery will also partner with a local coffee roaster to serve Sydney-friendly brews.
