Introduction
WALMI is a premiere autonomous training institute, working in the field of natural resources management as a part of Panchayat and the Rural Development Department, Govt. of M.P. It was registered under M.P. Societies Registration Act 1973 on 31st August, 1985. It is spread over 89 hectares of land on the right bank of Kaliyasot Dam.
To promote advancement of science and technology and acquisition of techno-scientific knowledge.
To undertake research and conduct experiments on various aspects of Irrigation, Watershed Management, Land Development and Rural Development and to collaborate with other organizations with similar objectives.

Self-reliant centre of excellence acting as a think tank and service provider for human resource development in natural resource management for sustainable development.
Nodal institute to assess the various water related issues, regulatory concerns, water laws and legislations, research and technology development and dissemination, social mobilization and Participatory and community involvement, including gender and equity concerns and economic aspects. Information hub for water related data in its entirety, at state level, linking these databases with national and international databases and adding value to information to facilitate resource planning and decision making at various levels.
State level centre for mapping water and other natural and agricultural resources micro and macro levels using the remote sensing and CIS technologies for land and water use planning.

A premier institution for conducting training, consultancy, action research and advocacy on management of water, land and environment for maximization of economic and social welfare.
