This piece was inspired by Matthias Werrecore's 'battaglia' (which evokes the figurative sounds of battles and wars) and the victory of Francesco II Sforza over French and Venetian forces at Bicocca in 1522.
The music is interpreted by the virtuoso cornetto player Andrea Inghisciano and the excellent Ensemble Umbra Lucis and was recorded in Ticino Swizerland in 2014 and released by Radiotelevizione svizzera and Urania Records under the name "The Lost Fresco - Music for the Anghiari Battle"
The Aria della Battaglia is an eight-part instrumental canzona in two parts and was published after Padovano's death in the book Dialoghi musicali de diversi eccellentissimi autori by Angelo Gardano in Venice 1590.
This music is performed with cornetto, shawms, viola da gamba, flutes, trombone, percussion and regal organ.
The paintings are mostly from Dutch painters from the golden age between 1590 - 1690 (Willem van de Velde, Aelbert Cuyp, Pieter Snayers and others)
