(Ep: 41) Cod and Cobia- Jetski Fishing from Yamaha Waverunner

Episode 41:

The Winter Solstice, the shortest day in the year. We had drizzly rain for the drive up to the ramp, and it was a very dark start being a new Moon. We left the ramp around 5:30am, a little over an hour before sunrise with the weather clearing and not too cold.

I headed out with three fishing buddies to a few of the local reefs. Live bait is always best, so we concentrated first on getting enough for the day from a known good spot. Of course, where there is bait, the predators should be hanging out, so we fished around that close reef for the first few hours, before heading out wide to some deeper locations.

Despite some early “bite-offs” by baby sharks, we got some nice fish. Overall it was another great day out, with what turned out to be a perfect day with no rain, light winds, small swell, and low current.

Check out the video to see a very friendly pod of Bottlenose Dolphins hanging around our crew out at the reef some 15 km offshore! They were super inquisitive and playful! I see them out at this spot almost every time I fish here, and it looks like they too enjoy the interaction.

Thanks to Wade, Greg, and Fred for another good day on the water! Sorry that you ran aground on the bar going back in Fred! ;) I should have had the camera rolling! But we’ve all been there. Not much fun trying to drag 350Kg of ski while standing in quicksand!
