Pushpita Shrestha and Bal Krishna Chand Thakuri discuss Nepal's recent earthquate with Joy Fulkerson, Coordinator of ETSU's Student Organization Resource Center. A magnitude 7.8 earthquake devastated Nepal and the Kathmandu Valley region on Saturday, April 25, 2015. By Monday, April 27, 2015 the death toll had reached 3,800 and rising with more than 7,100 reported injured. Rescuers are struggling to reach some of the more rural villages. International relief organizations are already warning of the urgent need for assistance. Recurring and fatal aftershocks have ravaged the capital city of Nepal as well as the surrounding area leaving many people lacking adequate food and shelter.
ETSU is home to nine graduate students from Nepal. These Nepali students will be hosting a campus fundraiser and awareness campaign in the coming days. The students shared the following: “We appreciate help in any way, donate to the cause, spread the word, or just keep Nepal in your thoughts as our fellow human beings are going through a stressful time and can use any aid possible.”
