On April 28, 1945, Italian dictator Benito Mussolini and his mistress were executed. The couple was captured by Italian partisans as they attempted to escape Italy. In 1922, Victor Emmanuel III appointed Mussolini as the Prime Minister after which he became the dictator of Italy.
