Bank of Uganda governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile ended his silence today to assure Ugandans that the Central Bank will not hesitate to intervene in the currency market to save the shilling from depreciating further. Mutebile spoke as the falling value of the shillings triggered a strike by traders in Kampala and neighboring towns. He also put the record straight about speculation on his job and reports that he had disagreed with the President Museveni over the purchase of fighter jets.
