Cyclone Chido is making landfall in Mozambique this morning as a strong Category 3 storm, and is continuing to intensify. Winds of up to 130 miles per hour are possible along the coast of Mozambique, between Pemba and Nacala, with the strongest winds and heaviest rainfall on the southern side of the center. The storm will hold a fair bit of intensity as it moves inland, although widespread impacts will be limited due to its compact structure. At landfall, a substantial storm surge may cause major damage, along with its powerful winds as seen in Mayotte yesterday. Chido is now stronger than it was at that point. Rainfall of over 100mm is expected in large parts of Mozambique from the storm's remnants later on, whilst totals of over 200mm are possible near the landfall location today.
