Plug it in and enjoy full-bodied sound, and the energetic nature of a truly legendary tube amp.
The VOX AC15 Tube Amp was one of the first amps that helped define the iconic British sound. The British Invasion helped skyrocket the company to fame in the 1960s, and their amplifiers have been used by players such as The Edge, Brian May, Tom Petty, and John Scofield.
The VOX AC15 is one of the most recorded amplifiers in history, primarily due to the famous ‘VOX chime’ and sparkle it delivers. The VOX AC15 carries with it the unmistakable iconic sound of VOX, yet all the polish of a modern amplifier.

Buying Story
Over the years, I have found guitarists to be quite diverse in their influences. I have met some that loved country, while others loved jazz. However, for me, my love of music has its roots primarily within the metal/rock genre. Up until I was about 21 most of the equipment, I own was for shredding metal. A friend of mine that I met in university had a completely different style of play that was free style and not as technical as I was used to playing in a metal band. It was refreshing and, honestly, really fun to be able to just get together and jam without having to practice for hours on end learning very technical riffs and solos before getting together with a band to rehearse.
This was the start of a complete change in my playing style and resulted in my eventually focusing on freestyle play and the blues. The thing I love most about this style is you can still get really technical, but you can also, in my opinion, really get into the music and create music on the fly.
Now I often find myself jamming with different friends and being able to always play along because of the art of freestyling you learn through the blues. And of course, my friends use amps more suitable for these “cleaner” styles of music. If they were to use my metal amp, they would turn the distortion down to extremely low levels.
So when I decided to commit and explore the blues, I needed the proper tools to help make that a reality. For me it was easy to find and buy one of the most popular blues guitars, an American Strat, but initially I didn’t really think it was as important to have a tube amp to replace my solid state at the time. Completely coincidentally I took a trip with a friend in Calgary one day to the local guitar store; he needed to pick up some strings. As I was looking around I heard a guy playing a big white and gold Gretsch Victory through a VOX AC15 Tube Amp. It sounded amazing to the point where I needed to hear what my guitar would sound like through it. I waited for him to finish before grabbing an American Strat and trying the amp out for myself. I had no intent in purchasing the VOX AC15 that day, but I walked out with it.
When playing cleanly through the VOX AC15, it blows a solid-state amp right out of the water. It is hard to describe that quintessential tube amp sound, but it is beautiful and powerful. Simply put, it’s VOX. Solid-state amps sound nowhere near as good as tube amps for the blues. Solid-state amps are digital, whereas tube amps are not.
Right out of the box, the great thing about the VOX AC15 is that there is not a whole lot you need to tweak. It is pretty much just plug in and play. The sound is iconic, and reminds me of 1960’s hits. There is nothing better than cranking up the volume and enjoying that classic VOX onboard overdrive.
I found that pedals tend to work great with the VOX AC15 Tube Amp. I can get enough distortion through the on board overdrive feature, but I have heard the sound from an Ibanez Tube Screamer and if I bought a pedal for more overdrive, it would for sure be that. Just as iconic that the VOX sound is, so is the distortion of the tube screamer.
