President Mohammed Shahabuddin has ordered her immediate release after consulting with politicians and the military about forming an interim government. Khaleda Zia, leader of the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has been suffering from liver disease, diabetes, and heart issues, and has largely stayed away from politics in recent years.
