Hello everyone! Welcome to another video on my #HowToBeAThirdMateSeries 👩✈️🤟
VLOG # 4 - HOW TO CONDUCT ANNUAL FIRE HOSE TEST
Requirements for Annual Testing and Maintenance can be found in MSC.1/Circ 1432. 7.1 Fire mains, fire pumps, hydrants, hoses and nozzles
✅ Visually inspect all accessible components for proper condition;
✅ Flow test all fire pumps for proper pressure and capacity. Test emergency fire pump with isolation valves closed;
✅ test all hydrant valves for proper operation;
✅pressure test a sample of fire hoses at the maximum fire main pressure, so that all fire hoses are tested within five years;
✅ verify all fire pump relief valves, if provided, are properly set;
✅ examine all filters/strainers to verify they are free of debris and contamination; and
✅ nozzle size/type correct, maintained and working.
Note ‼️
It is not necessary to test all fire hoses onboard annually. The regulation states that you can test random fire hoses annually, just make sure to test all of them within five years. However, I did test all fore hoses during my annual for my own assurance and for everyone's safety.
Risk Assessment should be done prior conducting this job because there are risks when you take out the fire hoses from it's stowing position. Just make sure to return the fire hoses immediately on the day, so mitigate the risk imposed.
