Panagiotis Sainatoudis manages to connect seeds with cultures that use them. He began his attempt occasioned by some seeds of a lost race, continued with the collection of the seeds of his own local community and expanded to over 1000 varieties of domestic seeds that were in danger of extinction, and which he brought back to market. He founded a company to restore tradition and history, as he firmly believes that seeds carry our roots.


Ο Παναγιώτης Σαϊνατούδης συνδέει τους σπόρους με τους πολιτισμούς που τους χρησιμοποιούν. Ξεκίνησε με αφορμή κάποιους σπόρους μιας χαμένης φυλής, συνέχισε στους σπόρους της δικής του τοπικής κοινωνίας και επεκτάθηκε σε πάνω από 1000 ποικιλίες εγχώριων σπόρων που κινδύνευαν να εξαφανιστούν και τους οποίους επανέφερε στην αγορά. Ίδρυσε μια εταιρία για την επαναφορά στην παράδοση και την ιστορία καθώς οι σπόροι μεταφέρουν τις ρίζες μας.

-- Panagiotis Sainatoudis is the founder of Peliti (1995) www.peliti.gr. He began to get involved in traditional seeds in January 1991 when he organised the first group for the collection, preservation and spreading of traditional seeds in Greece. Within five years he collected more than 1,200 varieties of traditional seeds. In 1995 he made the first public distribution of traditional seeds in Greece. In 1999 he organized the first Public Traditional Seed Exchange event, considered by many to be the largest seed festival in the world. Since 2017 he has been organizing the Olympic Seed Festival. On the 22nd of May 2009 he was honored as "Guardian of Mediterranean Biodiversity" by the General Director of Bioversity International. In 2013 Peliti received an award for its volunteer work in Greece from the President of the Republic of Greece Mr Karolos Papoulias.

Ξεκίνησε να ασχολείται με τους παραδοσιακούς σπόρους τον Ιανουάριο του 1991, όπου οργάνωσε την πρώτη ομάδα για τη συλλογή, διατήρηση και διάδοση των παραδοσιακών σπόρων στην Ελλάδα. Μέσα σε πέντε χρόνια συγκέντρωσε πάνω από 1200 ποικιλίες παραδοσιακών σπόρων. Το 1995 έκανε την πρώτη δημόσια διανομή παραδοσιακών σπόρων στην Ελλάδα. Το 1999 οργάνωσε την πρώτη Γιορτή Ανταλλαγής Παραδοσιακών Σπόρων,κατά πολλούς η μεγαλύτερη γιορτή σπόρων στον πλανήτη. Από το 2017 οργανώνει την Ολυμπιακή Γιορτή Σπόρων. Στις 22 Μαΐου 2009 τιμήθηκε ως «Φύλακα της Βιοποικιλότητας της Μεσογείου» από τον Γενικό Διευθυντή του Bioversity International. Το 2013 το Πελίτι τιμήθηκε για την εθελοντική του προσφορά στη χώρα, από τον Πρόεδρο της Ελληνικής Δημοκρατίας κ. Κάρολος Παπούλιας.
