The time/pressure test demonstrates how a substance behaves when exposed to an ignition source while under pressure.
The best way to avoid explosions and other process safety failures is to know the materials you work with very well. The time/pressure test answers the question: if ignited, could your material lead to deflagration with explosive violence? The question is important in many contexts, especially as it regards how substances in normal commercial packages react to an ignition source. If your material is transported this test may be one of several required to conform to UN and DOT hazardous material classification recommendations.
