Warning: very sweary!
They came, they saw, they swore like sailors. From Melbourne to Sydney with 'Shaun of the Dead' & 'The World's End' screenings and Q&A sessions, Britain's most exciting director, Edgar Wright, his longtime screenwriter collaborator, Simon Pegg, and actor Nick Frost, spent two riotous evenings with Popcorn Taxi.
"How's that for a slice of fried gold?!" The week all began with a fan's Tweet to Edgar Wright asking why the boys aren't doing an event with Popcorn Taxi while in Australia to open 'The World's End' - to which Edgar replied: "I'm up for it", then the fantastic people at Universal Pictures stepped in to make a hole in the boys' schedule to fit two special screenings and live Q&A guest events. Everybody won.
The week kicked off on Monday July 15 with a sold-out screening of 'Shaun of the Dead' at the 1000-seat historic Astor Theatre in St Kilda. Edgar Wright was on board for a post-screening Q&A that was hilariously over-run, first by Nick Frost and then also by Simon Pegg - turning into a fantastic, extended Q&A that thrilled the capacity audience.
The boys even got one very lucky kid into the following night's red carpet premiere of 'The World's End' just because they couldn't keep their promise to get a photo with him at Shaun of the Dead. "Alright: gay".
From there it was on to Sydney for an 800-seat hot-ticket screening of 'The World's End' at Event Cinemas, George Street. Again the boys over-delivered with an almost full hour Q&A following the movie and a very amusing recitation of a letter Edgar received from the British Film Commission about the level of swearing in his films (warning - this IS very sweary!!!)
From IMDB and Pie-gate to filmmaking and screenwriting, Edgar, Simon and Nick left no question unanswered, seeing the week of July 15-17 through to the bitter end -- or lager end -- of a fantastic trip.
