President Bola Tinubu has arrived in New York City in preparation for the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). His arrival at John F. Kennedy Airport was marked by a warm reception from key dignitaries, including Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Prof. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
The overarching theme of this year's UNGA is "Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Sustainability for All." President Tinubu is slated to make his inaugural National Statement on September 19, coinciding with the first day of the High-Level General Debate during the 78th UNGA Session.
Before taking the podium at the General Debate, President Tinubu will actively engage with fellow world leaders at several significant events, including the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (UN 2023 Summit on SDGs). He will also participate in crucial discussions such as the High-Level Dialogue on Financing for Development, the High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response, the UN Secretary General’s Climate Ambition Summit, the High-Level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage, and the High-Level Panel on Reform of the Global Financial Architecture, among others.
