The global pandemic has impacted countries around the world, but what has been its impact on the mass of migrants transiting between borders fleeing from poverty, corrupt governments, and conflict? What are their stories and how can reporters best tackle the issues of migration in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic?
In this webinar that will be moderated by ICFJ Global Health Crisis Reporting Forum Community Manager, Paul Adepoju, the duo of Yasmina Guerda, Public Health Communications Officer at the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and Saskia Kok, IOM Nigeria Head of Migrant Protection and Assistance, will provide a primer on migration journalism with attention on migration issues that are of public health importance.
They will teach attendees all they need to know about finding, researching, and reporting stories on migration in the middle of a pandemic—where to look, what rules to consider, how to pitch migrations stories and other issues that will need to be checked.
In addition, they will tackle questions like:
• What are the ethical guidelines on reporting migration?
• How do we get migration story leads?
• What migration issues are not yet attracting the attention they deserve in a pandemic?
• What are the necessary tips required for journalists interested in reporting on migration?
• What is unique about covering migration, what are the latest COVID-19-linked trends in reporting and what opportunities are available for both freelancers and journalists in media houses that are interested in covering migration and migrants?
