Roger and his 'beloved' have enjoyed their hardy Bottlebrush plant (Callistemon Rigidus) outside in the exposed welsh hillside garden for around 20 years - we see it in summer in full flower.
The flowers on this variety are a rich red (with maybe a hint of pink), there are some other flower colours available (yellow, white and and shades of Pink / red) but Roger finds that this is the hardiest variety he has grown - and has coped with occasional winter temperatures of well below freezing ...maybe as slow as - 8 degrees celsius.
The well drained soil in this part of the garden can help tender plants like this cope with the colder weather overwinter.
