Al Capone
Rod Steiger’s portrayal of Al Capone in this 1959 film is perhaps the best characterization of the legendary gangster on film. You can see it in mob movies and tv shows ever since. Think Tony Soprano or Al Pacino in Scarface. This film was directed by Richard Wilson, written by Malvin Wald and Henry F. Greenberg and released by Allied Artists. It tells the rise in documentary style of Capone as he arrives on the Chicago scene just as Prohibition is about to go into law and wreaks havoc on the windy city to rise to the top of the criminal underworld. A must see for gangster film fans.
