One of my favorite branches of mathematics, Conics or Conic sections. This is what happens when you cut a cone with a plane you get the four conic sections. The Circle, the ellipse, the parabola, and the hyperbola. Many applications of these conics. The first step is knowing where they come from and also how to identify them from an equation. y=x^2 is a parabola. x^2+y^2=r^2 is a circle.
