HOW TO UPDATE A KITCHEN ISLAND WITH TRIM AND LEGS
Today I'm sharing how I updated my kitchen with cherry cabinets by upgrading the kitchen island. I updated the kitchen island by adding panels to the front using 2x3 boards lined with base cap molding. This created the illusion of raised panels to match the panels on the sides of the island.
Next, I removed the braces that supported the island's overhang and replaced them with table legs. The granite was replaced with Dovestone quartz counters by Cambria. Finally, I painted the island with Benjamin Moore's Revere Pewter paint mixed 75% lighter,
These kitchen island updates gave the island the look of being a piece of furniture instead of builder basic cabinets. Painting the island also helped to break up all the wood in the kitchen, while leaving the rest of the cherry cabinetry untouched.
I've written blog posts that show step-by-step instructions for this kitchen island update project. It's a simple DIY that can be completed in about a week if you use primer and two coats of paint on the island.
