The Black Theatre Troupe was founded in 1970 Helen K. Mason to bring the stories of the African American experience to the Phoenix community.
In 1980 we began producing the joyous musical celebration, Black Nativity. This legendary holiday production, of one of Langston Hughes most celebrated works, was performed in December 2019 at the Helen K. Mason Performing Arts Center in Downtown Phoenix Arizona. This broadcast is Black Theatre Troupe's gift to the community for this special time of year. Please enjoy this powerful message of hope, victory and liberation. All of the things that we all need as we finally see recent glimmers of light at the end of the dark tunnel that is this pandemic.
