Joy upon Joy
John 15:7-11, Psalm 15:11
My heart’s desire as I preach this sermon is expressed in Isaiah 55:6-12…
“You will go out with JOY and be led forth with Peace.”
As we have explored our Theme, GRACE UPON GRACE, it has been a growing time. Among the many wonderful Grace gifts is the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2: 38)
And that gift dispenses more Grace gifts. (Galatians 5: 22) Of the nine gifts in this Passage, the first is Love and the second is JOY. By definition, JOY is “to be favorably disposed.” JOY has the qualities of gladness. The Greek word for JOY is Chairo. …and it is linked to the word for GRACE Charis. It could be translated “Joy because of Grace.”
Whatever may be your circumstance, Jesus wants to remind you, “I have told you this so that my Joy may be in you and that your Joy may be complete.” His desire is to give you not just a little bit of Joy…He wants you to be FULL of JOY.
For us, as Christians, our source of Joy is found in our relationship with God. It is rooted in His divine goodness. Peter says that because we believe we are filled with an “inexpressible and glorious JOY.
